It’s official: YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI set date for boxing rematch

Logan Paul vs KSI rematch YouTube boxing

Logan Paul will finally meet KSI in their anticipated YouTube boxing rematch this November. The Athletic reported Wednesday that Paul and KSI, who fought to a disputed draw in their first encounter in August 2018, will face off on Nov. 9 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The fight between the two YouTube mega-stars likely will sell out the 20,000-seat arena.

The two YouTubers have bashed each other for the past few years. In the leadup to their first fight, there were plenty of press conference shenanigans before the two scuffled in the ring in front of a sold-out arena crowd in Manchester, England. About 800,000 YouTube users paid $10 to watch the fight on YouTube (though a million more reportedly viewed the meeting on illegal streams), and it was the No. 1 trending item globally on Twitter.

Paul—who has 19.7 million YouTube subscribers—dominated the first two rounds of the six-round affair, but he tired badly in the latter part of the fight and KSI nearly knocked him out in the final round. One judge scored the bout for KSI, but the other two had it a 57-57 draw, the same score as the Daily Dot.

“What a fight,” KSI (20.3 million subscribers) said in the immediate aftermath. “Jesus. Logan, I think there’s only one thing to do. We have to have a rematch. That was fun. I’m down, bro.”

Paul responded, “I think it’s what the people want. Let’s give them a motherfucking rematch.”

But it’s taking much longer to put together a second meeting than originally anticipated. KSI’s team has blamed Paul’s squad for a lack of preparation and know-how for how to successfully put a major sporting event together. Predictably, Paul’s team then blamed KSI for the holdup.

The Athletic reported that Matchroom Boxing, the promotions company that is headquartered in the U.K. but which has made a concerted effort in the past few years to stake a claim in the U.S., would be the one to bring the rematch to L.A.

Paul and KSI haven’t done much trash-talking for the past year, but KSI was upset in June when Paul copyright claimed a KSI video that had been earmarked for suicide prevention charities (and thus prevented ads from being played on the video, which then prevented it from earning any revenue for those charities).

“HAHAHA FUCK U PUSSY,” Paul responded on Twitter. Paul eventually removed his claim. But clearly, the two still aren’t friends, and the trash-talking toward each other likely will commence soon.
