YouTuber David Dobrik receives backlash for vlogging plane crash skit day before 9/11

On Sept. 10, YouTuber David Dobrik did what he often does: He posted a YouTube video for his nearly 14 million subscribers. It even began trending the very next day, a pretty standard response for Dobrik, who is the leader of the popular group “Vlog Squad,” which is known for posting hilarious and popular content.

There was only one problem: The video featured a plane crash skit. A plane crash gag, posted a day before 9/11, and trended on 9/11 is obviously not a good look.

The video was not received well.

“Please tell me someone watched @DavidDobrik’s video he posted last night and felt it was insensitive and disgusting to do the night before the anniversary of 9/11?” Twitter user @kimberlycg questioned.

Anyone else find it shitty that @DavidDobrik had a sketch about a plane going down the day before 9/11 🤔🤔

Apparently Jason Nash, a member of the Vlog Squad, was also featured in the video.

“@DavidDobrik is known for doing a lot of crazy things, but I cannot believe the bad taste of uploading a vlog the night before 9/11 and including a bunch of jokes about their plane crashing. @jasonnash, you are 45-years-old, you should no better. So disappointed in y’all,” Twitter user @marieschepp wrote.

In the midst of the backlash, Dobrik made the video private, leading those who didn’t see it to ask questions on Twitter.

“Why has @DavidDobrik’s latest video (one with airplane seats) been made private?” one user asked. “He deleted it bc he did a bit where they were joking about a plane crashing and today’s 9/11 and ppl (myself included) weren’t too happy with it,” another responded.

Dobrik has not publicly addressed the video and did not respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment by the time of publication.
